HOD's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management! 🎓 We’re thrilled to have you join our community. The academic programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in the travel and hospitality sectors. It covers key areas like events management, culinary services, customer relationship management, cultural heritage, environmental conservation, community development, resource development, Tourism Information Technology and business aspects specific to these sectors. The goal is to prepare individuals to excel in diverse roles within the dynamic field of tourism and hospitality. Professional roles in the industry include hotel managers, event planners, travel agents, tour guides, and destination managers. These are crucial in providing excellent service delivery, managing tour operations, coordinating events, and ensuring a positive experience for guests. The industry offers diverse career paths, from front-line positions to managerial roles, all contributing to its overall success. On a broader perspective, the Programme seeks to engage students in different areas of interest with practical knowledge of hospitality businesses and hands on experience of the tourism industry through our Local and International Field Tours, Entrepreneurship Development Training,  Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and final year project; ultimately aimed at preparing them for nation building, peace keeping and international relations. The Department has overtime established genuine partnership with several Tourism Institutions and Organizations which see to the yearly intake and transformation of our students into ready entrepreneurs and employable graduates. They include: Cross River State Tourism Bureau, Transcorp Hotels, Calabar Hospitality House, Invest Africa LTD, City Museum Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management and International Hospitality Institute. Our students, (both past and present) have imbibed the core values of hospitality – “respect for all”, particularly guests, employees and employers; making them ‘fit’ to be awarded as those truly sound in character and learning. Our motto is: Amour et prosperíté (Love & Prosperity). Here’s to a fulfilling and successful academic adventure! .
