Welcome to Political Science Department. Political Science department is one of the prestigious departments in the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo in CRS-Nigeria. As a privileged Ag. Head of Department, I am euphoric to extent a heartfelt reception to our new and old students as well as prospective learners. The department of Political Science is poised to serve you better and shape your mental prowess by providing you with the right, appropriate theoretical and practical pedagogies which will eventually make you become strategically positioned to take advantage of career opportunities in both national and global polities. As a Political Scientist by training, you shall be well equipped to apply the appropriate methodological skills in your day to day operation in any given endeavor that you find yourself. I strongly believe that as you shall be well-groomed to become a political science graduate, you will provide useful direction for positive advancement of the society by bringing to bare the experiences garnered through the application of theoretical constructs and practice. Political Science is fully accredited by the National University Commission (NUC). Our department is a behavioral science which seeks to study social phenomena and also proffer solutions to the social maladies which bedevils’ our contemporary societies thereby threatening the peaceful co-existence of members. In Political Science, you will be espoused to a unique curriculum which will enhance your snowballing to other climes of the globe. Your understanding in both national and international affairs will make you outstanding amongst your contemporaries. The department is endowed with an array of well experienced and accommodating lecturers who have showcased masteries in both public and private lives including politics. Passing through their tutelages will not only make you a better graduate but an all-rounded political scientist. Political science department runs three degree programs viz: B.Sc Political Science, B.Sc Public Administration and B.Sc Peace and Conflict Studies respectively. Graduates from any of the program shall be employed any where in the world. This is because Politics, administration and conflicts are ubiquitous in nature and the resultant effect is the engagement of human resources to provide guidance and coordination towards meeting day to day demand. .

Admission Requirements

The philosophy and mission statement underlying political science program of Arthur Jarvis University is to produced high-class graduates equipped with critical thinking abilities as well raise world class leaders and public functionaries to tackle the challenges of poverty, underdevelopment, flawed political systems, weak governmental institutions, insecurity, weak administrative systems etc. candidates seeking admission into the four-year degree programs are highly welcome.

 

Admission or entry into this Department can be of two kinds:

  1. The three year (3) programme
  2. The four (4) year programme

 

  1. The three (3) year programme:

For admission into the three year degree programme, a candidate must:

  1. Satisfy the minimum Arthur Jarvis university requirements for entry into the degree programme, that is, they must possess at least 5 credits in SSCE/GCE O/L (WAEC, NECO or their equivalents) with a minimum of credits in English language, Government and Mathematics in not more than two sittings.
  2. Possess a Diploma from a recognized institution in any of these relevant field: Public Administration, Personnel Management, Applied economics, Political science, Social works, Business Administration, Law, History, Theatre Arts, Mass Communication, Philosophy, Religion, English and Literary Studies, Language and Linguistics, Computer Science and RN/RM Nursing and Midwifery, Accountancy, Education, Health Statistics and Health Administration.
  • Hold Advanced level GCE/IJMB in addition to a(i) above
  1. Hold Bachelor’s degree from Arthur Jarvis University or from institutions recognized by Arthur Jarvis University in addition to a (i) above.
  2. Hold HND, NCE or equivalent qualification from other institutions recognized by the university in addition to a(i) above.

 

 

b). The four (4) Year Programme:

for admission into the four (4) year programme, candidates must possess the following;

  1. Satisfy the minimum Arthur Jarvis university requirement for entry into the degree programme, that is, they must possess at least 5 credits in SSCE/GCE O/L (WAEC, NECO or their equivalents) with a minimum of credits in English language, Government and Mathematics in not more than two settings.
  2. Pass the UME at the appropriate level with the minimum JAMB score requirement approved by the school.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 credits in SSCE/GCE/ at the O/L (WAEC, NECO or their equivalents) with a minimum of credits in English language, Government and Mathematics in not more than two sittings.
