I heartily welcome all prospective students to the Department of Biological Sciences. This department has and runs three (3) programs; Microbiology, Biology and Biotechnology awarding B.Sc degree in Microbiology, B.Sc degree in Biology and B.Sc degree in Biotechnology respectively. All three programs in the Department of Biological Sciences have 100% accreditation status (full accreditation) from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Biological science is a science that explores microorganisms, plants, animals and other living things, giving an in-depth knowledge on their structure, genetics, ecology, functions and interactions with other living things. The study of biological sciences provide students with comprehensive understanding of living entities and their impact on healthcare, industries and environment at large.
Our well-equipped laboratory provides practical laboratory sessions which are integral part of biological sciences (microbiology, biology and biotechnology). This also provides research opportunities which will enable our students contribute confidently to ongoing scientific research discoveries, advanced technology in the field and develop great skills in handling and analyzing living biological systems.
All programs in Biological Sciences department incorporate a mandatory industrial-relevant course (industrial attachment) which provides insights into the industrial application of microbiology, biology and biotechnology in healthcare, agriculture, foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics etc.
The study of biological sciences be it microbiology, biology or biotechnology open doors to a wide range of carrier paths as graduates from this department can pursue opportunities in the public health sector as laboratory scientists, laboratory technologists, public health specialists, epidemiologists and a foundational program into advanced studies of medical and clinical related courses such as medicine and surgery, nursing etc, pharmaceutical industries, food and beverage industries as quality control officers, food safety experts, fermentors, cosmetologists, nutritionists, dieticians etc, environmental agencies as well as lecturing.
Studying biological sciences in Arthur Jarvis University will help students develop soft skills such as critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills which will enhance their employability status after studies in the global market.
Our main objectives are to raise students who will be able to;
– analyze scientific literature, evaluate research findings and apply problem-solving skills to biologically related issues
– communicate scientific ideas and findings via paper presentations, reports and scientific publications effectively
– design and conduct experiments, collect, collate and analyze data and pull up meaningful conclusions afterwards
In the Department of Biological Sciences, we create an ambience where innovative solutions, creativity and research skills are groomed for not just academic excellence but also for world class excellence.
We look forward to having you with us, mentoring you and adding value to your educational career.
Ag. Head of Department.
